History

Astreaea was founded in 1990 as an organization claiming the lesbian identity and with the goal of bringing visibility to the lesbian communities. The organization does not consider the term lesbian to be only a sexual orientation, but also a political identity. According to the Internet, Lesbian Visibility Day was started in 2008.
